An Evening with Historian Heather Cox Richardson

An Evening with Historian Heather Cox Richardson

February 11, 2026, @ 4:00pm in the Davis Library

Join renowned historian Heather Cox Richardson for an evening of reflection on the state of American democracy and the lessons history offers for our shared future. Known for her widely read daily newsletter Letters from an American, Richardson brings clarity and insight to the complex forces shaping our political and civic life.

In conversation with Dean Randy Hollerith, Dr. Richardson will explore how truth-telling, civic courage, and historical perspective can help us rediscover a sense of common purpose.

About the ‘A Better Way’ Initiative
This event is part of the National Cathedral’s ongoing “A Better Way” initiative—a series of programs designed to help Americans live together and learn from each other as we strive to embody the challenges and promises of our faith.

Organ Concert on January 18, 2026: Gustav Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder

Organ Concert on January 18, 2026: Gustav Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder

St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church in Corona del Mar will premiere a new arrangement of Gustav Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder in a concert of late Romantic music on January 18 at 4:00 p.m. This newly created version for countertenor and organ, arranged by Lukas Hasler, reimagines Mahler’s songs—originally for piano and orchestra—within the rich acoustics of the church.

Performers include Lukas Hasler, organist and director of music, and internationally acclaimed countertenor Alois Mühlbacher. The program also features Anton Bruckner’s Ave Maria and works by Louis Vierne. The concert takes place at 3233 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar; admission is free, with donations welcome.

Adopt-a-Family Update

Our Adopt-a-Family campaign with MOMS OC has grown even more impactful. In addition to the $2,400 in donations and $500 in bus passes already delivered, continued generosity from our parish has made a remarkable difference.

Tracy from MOMS OC shared that your giving was so abundant that they were able to support a second family of six — providing new clothes, gift cards, special gifts, and even a new stroller for a mother who just delivered yesterday.

Tracy wrote, “You guys are blessing so many… I’ve used all the gorgeous clothes and blankets already,” and shared that one beautiful white blanket went straight to a mom whose baby is in the NICU.

A heartfelt thank-you to Barbara Stewart for her lovingly knitted sweaters, caps, and blankets — and to everyone who contributed. Your kindness is bringing warmth, hope, and joy to families who need it most this Christmas.

2025 Holiday Fundraising Makes a Real Impact

This holiday season, our parish has shown extraordinary generosity through two major outreach efforts — and we are excited to share the impact with you!

Adopt-a-Family with MOMS OC

Thanks to the heartfelt giving of this community, Mary Bailey has delivered $2,400 in donations to MOMS OC for the family we adopted for Christmas — plus $500 in bus passes!

MOMS OC tells us that St. Michael’s is now their second-largest donor. And it’s not too late to give — let’s see if we can reach the top spot!

We are supporting a family of six (kids ages 13, 11, 4, and 6 months). The parents requested Walmart gift cards, and the children asked for Target gift cards.

🗓 Donations accepted through Sunday, December 14

Alternative Gift Fair Success

This year’s Alternative Gift Fair on Dec. 7 was a wonderful success — raising $3,542, surpassing last year’s total!

From these funds, the Vestry is budgeting:

  • $104 to the Youth Commission
  • $130 to the Fellowship Commission
  • $1,172 to the Mission Commission

Mission plans to use part of its funds to provide gas and grocery cards for Father Shane to share with neighbors in need.

Huge thanks to Kati Mowat-Nicholson and all who helped organize, volunteer, donate, and shop!

Thank you, St. Michael’s, for embodying Christ’s love through generosity, compassion, and community care.

Introducing PUSH: Pray Until Something Happens

St. Michael’s is launching a new parish-wide prayer initiative called PUSH (Pray Until Something Happens) — an opportunity for our whole community to come together in focused, intentional prayer.

On Sunday, October 26, The Rev’d Shane Scott-Hamblen introduced the initiative by sharing C. S. Lewis’s essay, “Petitionary Prayer: A Problem Without an Answer.” In it, Lewis wrestles with the mystery and purpose of prayer — how and why we bring our deepest hopes before God, even when answers aren’t clear.

We invite everyone to read and reflect on the essay over the next couple of weeks and to consider: What one or two issues related to our parish should we all PUSH for together in prayer?

Please send your reflections and suggestions to [email protected]. And stay tuned for more details in the Sundays leading up to Advent.

All Souls Sunday – Fauré Requiem Mass

All Souls Sunday – Fauré Requiem Mass

Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

Join us for a deeply moving All Souls Sunday worship service featuring Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, performed by the St. Michael’s Choir with organ and orchestra under the direction of Choirmaster Lukas Hasler, who will both conduct and perform on organ.

Fauré’s Requiem is one of the most beloved sacred works ever composed—an expression of peace, comfort, and eternal rest. We invite you to experience the awe and beauty of this very special Mass as we remember and honor all souls who have gone before us.

This service is free and open to the public. All are welcome to attend and share in this sacred time of music, worship, and reflection.
