Serving in Worship
Opportunities for Participation in Worship Abound
Parishioners at St. Michael and All Angels can participate in worship in a variety of ways. In addition to participating in the choir, here are other ways that members of our congregation devote themsleves to developing spirituality in our worship.
Acolytes
Acolytes carry the cross and candles into and out of the sanctuary, and help prepare the altar for Eucharist.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild "sets the table" for worship. They prepare the altar and the table of elements before each worship, and clean up afterwards.
Choir
The choir provides musical leadership for congregational singing in the worship of the church. Choirs may also sing anthems or make other special musical offerings to beautify and enhance the experience of worship.
Flower Guild
Flower Guild members create arrangements for the Altar each week, and coordinate festive arrangements through-out the church sanctuary during the Christmas and Easter seasons.
Lay Readers & Chalice Bearers
Readers read the lessons or the litany of people's prayers. Readers can also be chalice bearers, who administer the sacrament of wine after wafers have been distributed.
Ushers
Ushers are responsible for welcoming parishioners to worship, distributing bulletins, collecting the offering, and cleaning up the pews after worship.
Sub-Deacons
The sub-deacons is the celebrant's assistant during worship, leading key parts of the ceremony, and assisting in the preparation for Eucharist.
