“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-6)
A time of transition is ripe for engaging parishioners in reflection of what it means to be a member of the body of Christ. It provides an opportunity to explore the “varieties of gifts and services” that the Spirit has gifted our parish and parishioners. It also provides time to examine the unfolding history of the parish – where it’s been, where it is now, where it wants to go – to add clarity to the formal discernment process. Letting the past, present, and future come into focus will help ensure a solid base for considering rector candidates.
The Transition Committee will lead the parish on a journey of self-discovery. The goal is to engage every parishioner in discussion to appraise who we are and who we want to be. Over several months, the committee will meet with parishioners to discern our congregation’s hopes, dreams, strengths, weaknesses, and the qualities sought in our next rector. The Transition Team will begin work in January 2021 and draw on Diocesan tools, resources, and guidance that is available to help.
Peace be with you.
